New sisters!! We love it!!

We have a new family that are moving in this week into the old Green home on Fir Street.  Their address is 1212 Fir Street.  We are so excited to have them.  Her name is Sondra Jones and her husband's name is Chad.  They have 4 children.  Payton 12, Blaze 10, Justice 7, and Rhodey 3.  They are expecting a little baby girl in October!!  It's so great to have good strong families move into our area.  We love having them here!!
We also have a new couple that moved onto Bristlecone.  Their address 357.  David and Teresa Gibson.  He is still working in Vegas during the week and she is here.  They are going to be snowbirds, but in reverse.  They will be here in the summer and in Vegas in the winter.  She is a darling lady and would love to have visitors!!  Welcome Gibson's!!
And we have a new couple, Coralynn and Jacob Taylor, that moved onto Pinecone.  address is 1207. They are newly married and are going to be a great addition to the ward.  Actually they are looking for a vehicle to buy.   Dependable but definitely not new.  They are just getting started and just need something old but reliable.  If you have any ideas, please let one of us in the presidency know.
Welcome new people!!!  We are so glad to have you all...

Happy Birthday to Alice...

Alice is 95 this week.  We had a little party for her in Relief Society on Sunday.  If you weren't there you missed out.  All the brethren came in and we all sang Happy Birthday to her.  She was so touched.  She is an amazing lady that continues to endure and make the most out of life.  She is a great example to us all!!
We even had cinnamon rolls for those that came.  Sorry about everyone else.  We didn't have enough to go around for everyone.  But they were sure good!!!
We love you Alice!!

Great lesson on Sunday--The Scriptures---The most profitable of all study!!

Lisa gave a great lesson on the importance of reading, pondering, and studying the scriptures. Ponderizing is a made up word but it was a talk given in General Conference not this last conference but the October conference of last year.  He challenged us to take a scripture a week and put it somewhere where you see it every day.  Try to memorize it, think about it, read it and study it.  It's a great challenge.  You should try it.
We had a great discussion about different ways that each of us study the scriptures.  And there were many.  I think that's the key is to find what works for you and then go for it.  Constant and steady.  That's a secret to good scripture reading and understanding.  It's amazing that the more we study the more we can comprehend and retain from what we read.
It's chapter 10.  Page 143.  Read it!!  It's a great reminder!!

Happy thought for the day...

Running on Empty???

When push comes to shove, it's often our sleep that gets shoved aside.  After all, there are only 24 hours in a day, and when you're juggling heavy work loads and family responsibilities, not to mention regular exercise, cutting into your sleeping hours seems reasonable, even praiseworthy.  Think again...says Dr. Robert J. Farney, head of the sleep medicine division for Intermountain Healthcare, Urban Central Region.  Farney says this attitude is "Biological arrogance" and warns there is a high price to pay for those lost hours of sleep.
Cutting back on sleep is "Highly Detrimental."  He lists several negative impacts of long-term, partial sleep deprivation.
Impaired Cognitive function
Impaired Memory
Impaired Judgment
Damaged Relationships
Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Threats
Metabolic Impairment...

GET READY FOR BED
Sometimes getting to sleep is the problem.  Simple behavior changes make it more likely that you'll go to sleep and stay asleep.  "It's every common sense thing that you can think of," says Farney.

Make your bedroom a sanctuary for sleep.  Keep your bedroom cool, comfortable, quiet and dark.  A fan or a white-noise machine can reduce noisy distractions, while blackout curtains will minimize light, especially for shift workers.  Hide the alarm clock--its light can be distracting, and if you're having trouble sleeping, a constant reminder of the time can make it hard to quiet your mind.

Turn off the monitors.  The key is to avoid what Farney calls "activating the brain."  And television is a primary culprit of that because of the light emitted from the monitor.  "So you should not be watching television or playing video games--those activities are particularly bad," he says.  The light is a drug to the brain, literally!!!  Even your moblie devices with e-readers on it.  It's for the same reason.

Exercise.  "Not working out for an hour, but just good, physical activity,"  But don't exercise in the hours before bed---that will stimulate your brain.

Avoid Caffeine.  Caffeine is a stimulant and can interfere with sleep.

HOW MUCH SLEEP DO YOU NEED?
This is highly individual, but typically around seven to eight hours a night.  Some need more, and some need less.  But very few can function well with only four our five hours a night!!!
SWEET DREAMS!!

Tri-ward Service Day...Great opportunities to SERVE!!

On May 11th
from 5-9 p.m.
we are going to have a service night.  The Stake Relief Society Leaders have challenged us to perform 2016 service hours.   We will have many, and I say many because there will be many opportunities for you to participate in helping our community and also helping other countries with different projects.
Please, please, please come.  We would love for you to spend all 4 hours or just 1/2 hour.  Whatever you can do.  We are kind of hoping that we can win the prize for having the most ladies from our ward come.  But most of all, we win the prize because we are serving others and if we are serving others we are serving our Heavenly Father.  That is the prize!!!
There will not be a nursery but we will have food!
If you can, please bring a dessert.  That's what our ward is in charge of.
We look forward to seeing you there.
WE NEED YOU!!!
THE LORD NEEDS YOU!!!
The primary song, Give said the little stream is US!!  We can and must give!!  Everywhere we go...
We need to give of our time, our talents, and our resources to those of our Heavenly Father's children who are in need.
King Benjamin admonished in Mosiah 2:17 "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
Please put this on your calendar and make a mental note!!

Lesson - Do you Believe?

I gave the lesson yesterday.  We had a great time with having the young women come into our first Sunday lesson.  (They always do!!)  I took my lesson from several different talks.
Do I Believe?  Bonnie L. Oscarson
Safety for the Soul--Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
Hold Fast to the Rod--Elder Danile L. Johnson
All excellent talks.  I would recommend you look them up and read them.  Very powerful!!
Sister Oscarson shares a story about a young mother who needed to find out really whether she truly believed in what she had been taught all her life.  Is the church true, or is it not.  She had a very sick little boy who was being life flighted to Primary Children's Medical Center.  As she was sitting in the front of the helicopter she could see all the temples in the Salt Lake Valley.  At that moment she was so grateful that she did believe and that she had the peace she needed at that time because of her beliefs.  We all come to a point in our lives where we need to know for ourselves.
She asks--Do we sometimes become so accustomed to the blessings we have been given as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that we fail to fully comprehend the miracle and majesty of discipleship in the Lord's true Church?
Are we ever guilty of being complacent about the greatest gift we can be offered in this life?
If we believe that:
We have the only true church
That the Book of Mormon is true
That Jesus Christ is our Savior
That we are the very same church that existed back when Christ was on the earth
That we have living prophets
That families can be eternal
That we can save our ancestors
That we can perform saving ordinances for ourselves and others
That we have Holy Temples
Then we have the greatest message of hope and help that the world has ever known.....
We can add so many more wonderful things to that list of principles and doctrines we believe in.
We are so blessed.
We have a knowledge of these things, but do we believe them?
We need to get the gospel from our heads into our hearts!!
She goes on to talk about the question that is asked of her often...
"What is the greatest challenge our youth face today?
Her answer:  The ever present influence of the "Great and Spacious building" in our lives.
And that lead us to discussion Lehi's vision.
We talked about the 4 groups of people that either made it or tried to make it to the "Tree of Life."
A mist of darkness comes over all of us and we need to continually hang on to that Iron Rod which is the word of God to make it through this life.  NOT EASY!!
Elder Holland makes the statement that "Men's hearts shall fail them in the last days."  We talked about what that meant too.
You can study Lehi's dream in 1 Nephi 8.  It's great to see just which group you belong to.  And what group you would like to belong to.  I vote group 3!!  I pray for all of us to continually strive to hang on!!  Sometimes we need to look at our lives and see what we need to do better at.  The key word here is continually!!  Not just when we're in a crisis!  We need to continually study and pray and come to church and read the words of the living prophets and support our neighbors. Gain a testimony for ourselves of the Book of Mormon.
We had a great discussion and I am so grateful for all that participated!!
We missed you if you couldn't be with us!!.  Please come and join us.
