How to be totally miserable---Part 7

Take counsel from your fears
Miserable people always think about what might go wrong.  They plan their actions based on their fears.  The best they can do is imagine all the worst-case scenarios of what might happen.  This is a recipe for misery.  Someone once said that FEAR mean False Expectations Appearing Real.  Very often, the things we fear might happen never do.  When angels come to earth, they almost always begin their message by saying, "Fear not."  I guess it would be pretty frightening to see an angel, but maybe there's something more to what they're saying.  Perhaps there's a message about faith in there.  Think about it.  Angles come from this heavenly place, and the first thing our of their mouth is, "Fear not," as if to say, "You people down on earth are always afraid."

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Fear is that little darkroom where negatives are developed.

Happy Mother's Day...the day after!!!

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day yesterday!!  Who would have thought we would have the biggest snow day of the year on Mother's Day.  That's Cedar in the spring for you!!!  It will be one to remember.  We had no power at the church, as you already know if you were there, and had Sacrament Meeting in the dark!!  It was great!!  The bishopric spoke and did a awesome job.  Sorry if you missed it.  We had Sunday School in the dark and then we were sent home.  So we missed our lesson in Relief Society.  Rochelle was all prepared but it was a little chilly in the building so home was a good place to go. Hope you had a great day.  We love all of our Moms!!  And Grandmoms!!

Thank You!!

Thank you to all those who participated in Glenda's funeral on Tuesday.  Anyone from bringing food to setting up to cleaning up.  Many hands make light work and we so appreciate it!!  It was a wonderful service and I know Glenda would have so enjoyed it.  Actually she probably did.  She would have thanked you too.  We will miss her!!!

Recipes from "The Ten Virgins" Night

Carisa said that there have been several ladies asking for these recipes.  Here they are!!
Charoset Appetizer
4 cups apples peeled and diced
1/2 cup walnuts
2 TBS lemon juice
2 tes cinnamon
2 tsp sugar, feel free to add more sugar to taste.
(We also added some mild apples to tone down the tartness!!!  We also added what we thought would make it taste better.  A little grape juice, concentrated)
Place all indgredients in bowl and toss until apples are covered with cinnamon and sugar.  We actually put this in a processor, which on the recipe said not to.  So you can leave it chunky or process it and make it a bit more smooth.  Whatever you want!!!
Eat on Pita Chips or with bread

Parmesan Chicken Salad
8 cups cooked chicken, shredded
1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
3 cups seedless red grapes, halved
1 1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted
2 cups parmesan cheese, shredded
1 tsp sald
1/2 tsp pepper
Mix and Serve
Eat with croissants or bagels

Raisin Cookie Recipe and White Chicken Chili

Here is the recipe for the Raisin Cookies that we served at Glenda's funeral...
Boiled Raisin Cookies
Boil 1 1/2 cups raisins in 1 cup of water until dry.
Cream:  1 cup shortening and 1 heaping cup sugar
Add: 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp soda, 1 tsp baking powder, 3 cups flour, 3 beaten eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla.
Mix, then add raisins last.  Roll into balls and roll in powdered sugar.
Bake at 375 for 12-15 minutes.  DON'T OVERBAKE!!  I start checking them at 10 minutes because my oven bakes hot.  They just need to be golden brown on top.
Also, don't make them too large!!
 Easy and SO GOOD!!!

Lesson for this Sunday---done by me--Deb Johnson

Commitment and Conversion
Richard G. Scott:  Each of us has observed how some individuals go through life consistently doing the right things.  They seem happy, even enthusiastic about life.  When difficult choices are to be made, they seem to invariably make the right ones, even though there were enticing alternatives available to them.  We know that they are subject to temptation, but they seem oblivious to it.  Likewise, we have observed how others are not so valiant in the decisions they make.  In a powerfully spiritual environment, they resolve to do better, to change their course of life, to set aside debilitating habits.  They are very sincere in their determination to change, yet they are soon bakc doing the same things they resolved to abandon.
What do you think is the difference?
A German proverb says:  Promises are like the full moon, if they are not kept at once, they diminish day by day.  As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have committed to walk in the path of discipleship.  We have committed to follow the example of our Savior.  Imagine how the world will be blessed and transformed for good when all members of the Lord's Church live up to their true potential---converted in the depth of their souls and committed to building the kingdom of God.

There is a difference between testimony and conversion.  We need to work hard everyday to be truly converted to our Savior and His teachings!!!

Brother..I'm committed!!!

We Never Walk Alone--Carol Farnsworth, President Monson

Carol gave a great lesson last week from the Ensign.  Article:We never walk alone by President Monson.  We had the Stake Leaders with us, which was a nail bitter for Carol.. Sorry about that.  But she did such a great job.
I love President Monson.  He always talks about the love he has for his sweet wife, Frances.  He tells of the love Francis has for the Relief Society.  He loves Relief Society too.  It was organized under inspiration and is a vital part of the Lord's Church.  It would be impossible to calculate all the good which has come from this organization and all the lives which have been blessed because of it.
Relief Society is made up of such a varity of women.  Old, young, single, married, widowed, with children, without children, and the list goes on.  We are all different and that's what makes it great.  We all have challenges and struggles.  And many of the challenges we face exist because we live here on earth.
Quote:  There will be times when you will walk a path strewn with thorns and marked by struggle.  There may be times when you feel detached---even isolated---from the Giver of every good gift.  You worry that you walk alone.  Fear replaces faith.  When you find youself in such circumstances, I plead with you to remember prayer.
We were not placed on this earth to walk alone.  What an amazing source of power, of strength, and of comfort is available to each of us.  He who knows us better than we know ourselves, He who sees the larger picture and who knows the end from the beginning, has assured us that He will be there for us to provide help if we but ask.  We have the promise:  Pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good.
"Ere you left your room this Morning---Did you think to Pray!!!
There is a story that President Monson tells that is so good.  Please read it!!!
Thanks Carol for the great lesson.
